Background

• Composition of the current  RPO is typically

  • 57 Core Musicians during its 40 Week Season

  • 25 Contract/Supplemental Musicians

• From its inception, the RPO has been know by a variety of other names:

  • The Rochester Civic Orchestra (1929-1964, core of 45-55 Musicians)

  • The Eastman-Rochester Orchestra (1940’s & 50’s augmented by Eastman School of Music faculty and students for making phonograph recordings.)

  • The Rochester Pops Orchestra (Since 1922 to denote an augmented orchestra playing lighter arrangements)
